Skin Type and Hydration Needs

Different skin types have different hydration needs.

Dry Skin has a tendency toward dryness and often feels uncomfortably tight and rough. Overly dry skin has lost some of its oil content and needs to have this balance restored to normal levels. Persons with dry skin should drink plenty of water (six-to-eight large glasses per day) - half their weight in ounces of water - to avoid dehydration. For example, a 120 lb. person should drink 60 ounces (about two quarts) of water every day. They should also use hydrators to help maintain the skin’s oil content.

DermaQuest™ Skin Therapy recommends Revive Cream or Revive Rich, according to the severity of dry skin.

Oily Skin may be shiny, with dilated pores and occasional or frequent blackheads. Oily skin often needs extra hydration because clients with oily skin tend to strip the oil from their skin and dehydrate it in the process. As oily skin is acne-prone, a hydrating product should be chosen that does not clog acne-prone skin.

DermaQuest™ Skin Therapy recommends Advanced B5 Serum for hydrating oily skin. Additional moisture needs can be met through nightly application of Revive Serum.

Combination Skin has dry areas and oily areas - the nose, forehead, and chin tend to be oily. Combination skin needs to have its dry areas hydrated and its oily areas cared for.

Normal Skin exhibits a pinkish, glowing complexion with hard-to-see pores. This type of skin must maintain a balance between dryness and oiliness, i.e., between water and oil balance.

DermaQuest™ Skin Therapy recommends Advanced B5 Serum as a basic need for normal skin, and Revive Cream in the PM for nightly barrier care.

Skin Condition Treatments Skin “Conditions” are different from skin types in that they are not the normal condition of the skin given its type.

Dehydrated Skin can affect any type of skin - dry, oily, combination, or normal - that has lost water for extrinsic or intrinsic reasons. Clients with dehydrated skin need to drink extra water and hydrate to the skin with topical products.

A basic-need product for this skin is the Advanced B5 Serum.

Over-Treated Skin has been stripped of its oil and water though excess use of irritating products.

This condition needs hydration from Advanced B5 Serum and moisture from an appropriate Revive product.

Acneic Skin tends to be the most over-treated and abused skin type. Through the process of reducing oils on the skin, excessive water is lost and the dermis collapses from dehydration.

Advanced B5 Serum will re-hydrate the dermis, and the need for moisture is met through the appropriate Revive product.

Mature Skin has slowed in its natural processes, including deposits of water in the dermis. All mature skin, no matter what type or condition, must be treated generously with hydrating products.

Advanced B5 Serum is a basic need for this skin, usually with the Revive Rich as the moisturizer. Peptide Mobilizer can be the alternate product to the Advanced B5 Serum for this skin type.

Hydration/moisturisation products are by far the highest selling products in cosmetics. No matter the skin type or condition, usually the first ‘imbalance’ that is obvious is the lack of oils, or water, or both, allowing the skin to loose its health and youthful appearance.

To find the best solution, the skin must accurately assessed so that the type and condition of the skin as either dry, dehydrated, or both can be determined.
