DermaQuest™ Skin Therapy has two professional treatments for inflammatory acne:
the Acne Treatment Mask and the Salicylic Acid Resurfacing treatments.
The Acne Treatment Mask [10%]
Is initially a gentle scrub (jojoba beads), used to remove debris, dead cells, and
oil from the surface of the skin. The gentle scrub is performed for 1-3 minutes,
according to the condition of the skin, then the product is left on the skin for
up to 10 minutes as a mask. It is a 10% benzoyl peroxide product that also includes
MSM and skin soothing ingredients. It is ideal for Grades 2-4 Acne care. For higher
grades of acne, do not scrub this mask on the skin; just let the product mask for
up to 10 minutes.
Salicylic Acid Resurfacer [20%] And Peel [30%]
Treatments are for inflammatory acne Grades 2, 3, and 4. Salicylic acid increases
cell turnover in the stratum corneum. Salicylic acid is preferable to alpha hydroxy
acids such as glycolic acid for acne treatment because its oil solubility allows
it to pass through the sebum in follicles. It can encourage more efficient cell
turnover in the follicle than AHAs. AHAs are hydrophilic, which means they are soluble
in water and cannot pass through the oil in a follicle.
Why does DermaQuest™ Skin Therapy recommend glycolic acid for treating Grade 0 acne?
Glycolic acid removes the tiny “scrim” of epithelial cells that usually hold in
the comedones and prevent opening of the follicles at the skin surface. It also
hydrates the area, softening the impaction at the follicle opening, and allowing
it to be extracted.
